THE OFFICIAL FANTASTIC FOUR TRAILER
From uncertainty built around multiple release date changes, a sequel already getting a release date and questions about its position and connectivity to Fox’s X-Men franchise, there was reason to be concerned about the Marvel founding family after the previous attempt at a franchise came to a jarring halt after Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer opened in theaters in 2007.
The new Fantastic Four is being directed by Josh Trank who made a name for himself with the hit low budget, found footage super-powered thriller Chronicle. Outside of comparisons to Chronicle and a stellar cast of stars, there’s been little to go on until yesterday when the first official FF photos released online alongside descriptions of the character costumes. We knew the Fantastic Four reboot trailer would be coming soon, attached to Fox’s Kingsman: The Secret Service when it opens in theaters in February but last night we heard it would release online today. And it did.
The timing couldn’t be better given our discussion on Fantastic Four on this week’s episode of the Screen Rant Underground podcast and the teaser clarifies a lot of the questions we’ve raised ourselves. Firstly, this Fantastic Four is clearly not shot in the same found footage vein of Chronicle and the characters do have “costumes” of sorts which seem practically designed around their abilities and work in their lab. In fact, the visual aesthetic and tone that matches that of the X-Men and the teaser looks interesting, dramatic and downright appealing.
