KENYAN FILMMAKER WINS $5000 AT THE AFRINOLLY SHORT FILM AWARDS

Kenyan Filmmaker Mukii Ng'endo Wins $5000 At The Afrinolly Short Film Awards Which Was Held In Lagos, Nigeria On 22nd February, 2014.

Although she did not managed to scoop the first position, Kenyan filmmaker Mukii Ng'endo emerged number three in the Afrinolly Short Film competition which is sponsored by MTN for her documentary called Yellow Fever.
The price for the third position was $5000 UD approximately 430,000ksh, and that is the money that Mukii is now swimming in. |
Afrinolly Short Film awards sees film makers rewarded for their work in documentary and also short films.
The top prize in the documentary category was a cool 25,000 USD, approximately 2,150,000 ksh and was scooped Victor Okoye for his work in Creative Minds, other winners in the category included Ronke Ogunmakin who took the Second Prize ($10,000) for his work in Awele's Diary.
Submissions for the season 2 of these awards show opened on 1st September 2013 with over 400 film makers from 16 countries submitting their work after which a panel of judges in the creative industry which included the late BBC’s Komla Dumor picked 10 films for both the short film and documentary categories.

The judges were looking for good concept, originality, video footage clarity, ability of the video to captivate and most importantly perfect execution, if you are a producer then you know that those are all the aspects of production in any given project. If your film passed the above criteria the judges short listed it for the final showdown which was handing the power to the public.
For 12 days the public was allowed to vote for their best short film or documentary and below is a full list of winners.

Second Prize ($10,000) Crimson – Your Cup of Tea by Daniel Etim Effiong
Third Prize ($5,000) 10:10 by Gbenga Salu
Documentary:
First Prize ($25,000) Creative Minds by Victor Okoye
Second Prize ($10,000) Awele’s Diary by Ronke Ogunmakin
Third Prize ($5,000) Yellow Fever by Ng’endo Mukii
